Paris Saint-Germain have escalated their interest in Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas, the
PSG are said to have been in contact with Villas-Boas’ agent, Carlos Goncalves, to establish if the former Chelsea boss would be interested in a move to the French capital. Villas-Boas’ Tottenham contract extends for a further two years but the newspaper claims it contains a release clause, set at £10m, that would enable the 35-year-old to leave White Hart Lane.
The Guardian stresses however that Villas-Boas has not indicated he is looking to leave Spurs and recently confirmed his desire to begin a second season at a club for the first time in his brief but eventful managerial career. Tottenham also recently appointed Franco Baldini as director of football, a move supported by Villas-Boas.
Should Villas-Boas cross the English Channel, however, it is expected that PSG would attempt to sign Gareth Bale too, but Tottenham would put up stern resistance to the Wales winger’s departure – although, if PSG meet Villas-Boas’ release clause and he wants to complete the switch, they could not stand in the Coach’s way.
Villas-Boas’ first season in charge at Spurs since replacing Harry Redknapp last summer saw the club finish in fifth place in the Premier League, short of the Champions League qualification places by a single point, with near neighbours Arsenal claiming the final spot.
