Paris Saint-Germain hope to pair up Andre Villas-Boas with Gareth Bale, the
The French champions are willing to outbid long-term suitors Real Madrid for Wales international Bale, and hope to add more weight to their claim to sign the winger by drafting in Villas-Boas to replace Carlo Ancelotti. But even if Villas-Boas remains at White Hart Lane, PSG are willing to pay a world record fee to sign Bale, the newspaper adds.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2009 move from Manchester United to Madrid is the current world record transfer, costing the Spanish side £80m, but having spent more than £200m in the two years since buying PSG, the club’s backers, Qatar Sports Investments, will not blanche at making Tottenham a mega-offer.
Bale is not said to be seeking a move away from Tottenham but will listen to any offers if Tottenham accept bids from interested parties. The same is said to be the case for Villas-Boas, who will speak with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and, if he receives assurances over his transfer budget for this summer, will spurn any advances from France.
In Villas-Boas’ first season in charge at Tottenham since replacing Harry Redknapp, Spurs finished fifth, outside the Champions League qualification places. Bale enjoyed a banner year, however, scoring 26 goals and winning a host of individual awards.
