Tottenham Hotspur are frontrunners to sign Brazil international Paulinho after the midfielder confirmed he wants to play at White Hart Lane while talks between Spurs and Corinthians reach an advanced stage, according to The
Spurs have tabled a £15m fee that could rise further if the 24-year-old impresses in the Premier League and Corinthians appear resigned to letting their star player leave. He is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup but that appears not to have stopped Spurs swooping in for the box-to-box player.
“I feel I am ready to experience football at the highest level in Europe and the opportunity to play in England is a dream,” Paulinho said.
“I couldn’t turn them down if they made me an offer. It would be a fantastic opportunity to play for Tottenham.”
The player has reportedly been on Tottenham’s radar since November and boss Andre Villas-Boas has fought off much competition for the right to negotiate personal terms. Paulinho can play deep in midfield or just behind the forward line and would be the club’s first arrival of the summer.
