Reina rejects talk of Liverpool exit

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has denied rumours linking him with a move to Spanish champions Barcelona, which has been continually a subject of transfer speculation this summer, the Daily Express has reported.

Reina, who has been at Liverpool since 2005, began his career with the Catalan side, but he insists that he has no plans to return.

Factors which have led to increased speculation include the expected transfer of Belgian ‘keeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland to Liverpool, and Barca’s current No.1, Victor Valdes, being linked with a move to Napoli.

Reina has responded by telling Spanish newspaper AS: “It’s quite clear – I am under contract with Liverpool and right now, there are not going to be any changes.”

This suggests that Reina is unwilling to end his long-standing commitment to the Reds, for whom he has made over 300 appearances, although the club have failed to mount a challenge for the Premier League title or even for the Champions League places for a number of seasons.

A move to the Nou Camp is likely to ensure silverware, but it appears that Reina is not actively looking to move on.
