Ronaldo contract denial increases talk of Man Utd return

Cristiano Ronaldo’s emphatic denial that he has extended his Real Madrid contract has lent more weight to speculation the Portugal winger is preparing to return to the Premier League and Manchester United, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Ronaldo tweeted on Thursday afternoon: “All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false,” leading to a flurry of bets that the 27-year-old will make a switch back to Old Trafford this summer, four years after leaving United for Madrid. There are two years remaining on the six-year deal signed in 2009 following the world record transfer fee move.

The Mirror claims Ronaldo intends to see out his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and leave for nothing in 2015, then ask for a £60m signing on fee from his new club in lieu of a transfer fee. It had been claimed – allegedly through Madrid president Florentino Perez, according to the Mirror – that Ronaldo was to sign a new contract until 2018 at double his current £185,000 per week wage.

But if Ronaldo sees his future away from Spain, as his comments on the social network site suggest, David Moyes is hopeful of persuading the player to return to his former club, although faces competition from the wealthy French pair, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco.
