Fans of Paris Saint-Germain have identified Wayne Rooney as the man they want to partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front, reports The
The week-long poll from newspaper Le Parisien saw the England striker beat off competition from the likes of Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Edinson Cavani.
Ibrahimovic fired PSG to the French championship last season, and fans hope that the Swede will be able to continue displaying his prowess in front of goal alongside the former Everton striker next season.
Rooney had requested to leave Man United at the end of last season, and while this request was turned down it is believed that incoming manager – and Rooney’s former boss at Everton – David Moyes has set the 27-year-old’s future at the club among his top priorities when he finally arrives at his Old Trafford office.
Should he decide that Rooney is allowed to leave, PSG face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Monaco for the player’s signature.
It is believed, however, that Chelsea would be favourites to sign him if he does depart the Red Devils, though Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho recently refused to be drawn on speculation linking the England star with Stamford Bridge.
Rooney signed for United in 2004 from Everton, for a fee reported to be around £25.6m.
