Southampton Transfer Focus – Saints show Bueno interest

It has been revealed in the press recently that Southampton are hopeful of signing striker Gonzalo Bueno from Nacionale Montevideo in a deal reported to be worth around £8m. The 20-year-old is an up and coming marksman, being hailed as the next Diego Forlan. He has a natural predatory instinct leading to him scoring some crucial goals for his current club and may prove very useful for Southampton in the coming campaign should they secure his services.

Bueno can play up top or on either wing, showing versatility and an array of talent in different positions. He has a good track record as previously mentioned his vital goals for his club have earned him a call up to the U-20 Uruguay team – he has also featured in the U-23 set up. One of the hottest properties in Uruguayan football at the moment, the youngster known as ‘El Zorro’ is heavily tipped to break into the national team next season.

It was rumoured that countryman Gaston Ramirez had something to do with this interest, reportedly suggesting to Southampton that Bueno was a much-needed acquisition if the club is serious about moving forward. The Saints star will be hoping he is joined by his compatriot on the south coast and fans will be hoping he is as big a success as Ramirez.

Southampton already have a number of talented players in attacking positions and this signing would really intensify competition for places. Mauricio Pochettino will have his work cut out selecting his strongest team, combining youth and experience, whilst trying to keep everybody happy.

There is no doubt this acquisition would add some flair and vibrancy to the Saints attack, not to mention the added depth will help through injury periods. With question marks still hovering over some of their key men, it is certain that a signing like this will comfort fans and show the club’s plans to establish their top flight status, like the Southampton of old.

The dealings of Pochettino so far have looked highly promising and it can be said that he is staying true to his word, looking forward and pushing for more success. Many rumours have floated about but this deal in particular looks set for completion in the coming days, as Bueno reportedly prepares to fly over to agree personal terms. An exciting talent and prospect incoming for the South coast’s top team.
