Sunderland target Hull striker Altidore

Reports coming out of Sunderland are claiming that Paolo Di Canio is chasing former Hull City striker Jozy Altidore.

The American international now ply’s his trade in the Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar, where he has blossomed since his switch two years ago, bagging 31 goals for the Eredivisie outfit last term and 17 the season before.

The Sunderland Echo is reporting that the 23-year-old could be ready to come back to the Premier League after impressing Black Cats bosses last summer. Although the front man has been prolific in the Netherlands he has seen his value fall from the £7m Villarreal paid for him five years ago; now Di Canio could get his man for just £5m.

However, reports are also suggesting that a number of other clubs are following the American so this could drive his price up.

The Wearsiders are hoping to clinch the deal by offering Altidore the responsibility of leading their attack next season. It is also rumoured that the bustling striker is a fan of Di Canio’s, which could sweeten the deal further.
