Tottenham Hotspur are to step up their chase for Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho by meeting his £17m buy-out clause at Corinthians, Goal.com
With the 24-year-old away at the Confederations Cup, the completion of a move looks to be at least two weeks away.
Inter are also reported to be interested in the Corinthians midfielder although Spurs are said to be the first to have made a formal offer, £14m, and after talks, the White Hart Lane club were ready to increase their bid in order to secure Paulinho’s services. However, Inter’s involvement according to the website is unlikely to be over.
It appears that Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas sees Paulinho as a player who can help guide the club to the Champions League next season, after just missing out to Arsenal in 2012-13. The website also states that Spurs are scouring the Brazilian market in order to identify transfer targets, with recently appointed technical director Franco Baldini reportedly having an array of contacts within Brazilian football.
