Van Ginkel backed for Chelsea move

Marco van Ginkel is capable of playing in the Chelsea first team, according to current Vitesse Arnhem teammate Theo Janssen, who told NUsport the young midfielder only needs to adapt to life at Stamford Bridge before making Jose Mourinho’s XI.

Mourinho has been a keen admirer of van Ginkel for some time and is ready to make a bid for the 20-year-old, who Janssen believes should take the opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League.

“I told him that opportunities like this don’t come that often and, if you get a chance like this, I think you must do it,” said the veteran.

“I think he is ready for a next step but the step to Chelsea is very big.”

Since his arrival on the Arnhem scene three years ago van Ginkel has developed into a first-team regular and played his second 30+ season last term before proving himself at the Euro U21 Championships. At 5ft 9in the Dutchman relies on skill and quick feet to beat opponents in midfield and his arrival could pave the way for Juan Mata’s expected departure.
