Aston Villa are keen to ensure the retention of striker Christian Benteke, and are believed to be prepared to double the player’s wages in order to fend off interest from the Premier League and abroad, according to The
Benteke impressed during his maiden season with Aston Villa, and has attracted interest from various quarters from teams interested in acquiring the 22-year-old.
He is thought to earn around £20k per week presently at Villa, and the midlands outfit are ready to up his wages to £40k in an effort to tempt him to stay.
However, with the £25m asking price they have placed on Benteke, it is believed that any club willing to meet that demand would generally have little objection to improving on this offer to tempt both club and player to do business.
North Londoners Tottenham and Arsenal are the frontrunners from the Premier League, while Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina and Champions League runners up Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the former Genk striker.
Benteke managed 19 goals in just 34 appearances in the claret of Villa, who survived a brush with relegation this season.
They are keen to retain their primary goal provider in an effort to enjoy a more successful season, but considering both North London clubs are keen to spend big ahead of the new season, it appears likely that the resolve of both club and player will be tested during the summer transfer window.
