Altidore excited by Sunderland switch

Sky Sports are reporting that new Sunderland signing Jozy Altidore is excited by his latest move.

The United States international completed his switch from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday and is reported to be keen to get going with his new teammates. The 23-year-old told the club website: “I’m thrilled to be here and I’m looking forward to getting adjusted as quickly as possible.

After signing a four-year deal with the Black Cats Altidore will join up with the squad for the remainder of their pre-season tour of Italy. The American striker has had a previous stint in the Premier League while on loan at Hull City from Villareal in 2009/10 season; however he only managed to hit the net once in 28 appearances.

Since his first spell in England though Altidore has grown as a player, blossoming last season in the Eredivisie with Alkmaar. The New Jersey-born hit man struck 31 times in 41 appearances in all competitions for Gertjan Verbeek’s side. Altidore is now hopeful that he can transfer that kind of form to Wearside. “I’m just going to give everything I can to the team, that’s the biggest thing to get the respect off your teammates,” he said.
