Arsenal are to attempt to make a move for Sevilla’s defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to Sky
Chelsea and Real Madrid are among those rumoured to be considering a bid for Kondogbia, although the Spanish giant’s interest has eased off in recent days. With Sevilla not participating in Europe next season, Kondogbia may be enticed by Champions League football, which joining Arsenal would provide.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to add a defensive midfielder to his side, with Abou Diaby having been plagued by injury in recent seasons. Mikel Arteta, signed as an attacking midfielder in 2011, was made to deputise for much of last season, after the departure of Alexandre Song to Barcelona. Wenger is looking for French U-20 international Kondogbia to add more physical strength to his midfield.
Kondogbia made 37 appearances for Sevilla last season, scoring one goal, and performed consistently, making him one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in Europe.
