Arsenal have made their first signing of the summer, bringing in France youth international striker Yaya Sanogo, the
Sanogo joins the Gunners from Auxerre, with Arsene Wenger parting with only a small fee in compensation after the 20-year-old’s contract with the Ligue 2 side came to an end. Sanogo made 13 appearances for Auxerre last season after struggling with injury, but still scored nine goals.
The striker is on international duty with the France Under-20 team at the World Under-20 Cup in Turkey, scoring twice thus far, with Wenger pointing to Sanogo’s form for club and country as a reason to be cheerful about the signing of the youngster.
“Sanogo is a good young signing for us,” Wenger said. “He has shown that he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side. We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”
Arsenal are also understood to be in the market for a more experienced attacker, with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney among the names mentioned in connection with moves to the Emirates Stadium.
