Arsenal target Gokhan Inler has turned down the chance of a move to the Premier League in order to remain with current club Napoli, reports The
Inler’s agent Dino Lamberti has confirmed that an offer was received from a “prestigious” Premier League club for the midfielder, but announced that the Swiss international remains content at Napoli.
Lamberti said: “There was an offer from a very prestigious English club but we have not taken it into consideration. He’s very happy and he told me that he’s feeling good at the starting of the training camp.”
Lamberti refused to specifically identify which club had made the approach, but Arsenal are known to harbour a long-term interest in the 29-year-old, with Arsene Wenger thought to be a huge fan of the player.
Napoli are enduring a transitional summer with the arrival of Rafa Benitez to replace Walter Mazzarri, and Edinson Cavani’s huge money departure for the pastures of Paris Saint-Germain.
Inler had been linked with a move to Inter to link up with former boss Mazzarri, in a deal which could have seen Freddy Guarin move the other way in exchange.
Benitez, meanwhile, has assured Inler that he hopes to keep the player at the club and he remains firmly part of the Spaniard’s first team plans.
