Aston Villa willing to sell Benteke to Chelsea but player wants Tottenham move

Aston Villa will sell Christian Benteke to Chelsea for £25m, the Daily Mail has reported, but the player, who issued a transfer request earlier this week, wants to move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa are not inclined to sell to Spurs, however, having had a falling out with the White Hart Lane club over the loan deal for Jermaine Jenas. But Benteke feels he would be more likely to play regularly at Tottenham than at Chelsea, even though Villa are interested in a player-plus-cash transfer that would send Romelu Lukaku to Villa Park.

The 22-year-old joined Villa from Genk last summer in an £8m deal, with Benteke netting 19 goals in his first season in the Premier League. A £25m price tag has been placed on the Belgium international’s head and Villa owner Randy Lerner has insisted the striker will only be sold once the valuation is met.

Prior to joining Villa last summer Benteke went on strike from Genk in an effort to force the move to the Midlands, the newspaper adds, while a new contract that was offered to Benteke at the end of the season is still on the table should he have a change of heart.
