Ba vows to fight for Chelsea starting berth

Chelsea striker Demba Ba has said that he will fight for a first-team place next season under Jose Mourinho, TEAMtalk.com has reported, with the 28-year-old relishing the possibility of the competition should Wayne Rooney join the club this summer.

Ba joined Chelsea from Newcastle United in January but he struggled to find the net on a consistent basis, scoring just one Premier League goal, with his other four strikes coming in the FA Cup after a prolific season and-a-half in the North East.

The Blues have already seen one bid rejected by Manchester United for Rooney, while Fernando Torres, and Romelu Lukaku, who scored 17 Premier League goals in a successful season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, will also be vying to be in Mourinho’s first-choice starting XI.

And Ba would be happy to see Rooney arrive at Stamford Bridge. Also responding to speculation that he may leave Chelsea, he declared: “I will stay. I think we need competition and we welcome the best players in this club. More competition is going to make me better anyway. All players want to play, not only centre forwards. We will all work in the same direction, for the club, to try and win the games.
