Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie are the Premier League representatives on UEFA’s 10-man Best Player in Europe shortlist, BBC
The pair are joined by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Paris Saint-Germain and Sweden striker, Borussia Dortmund’s Poland international Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid and Portugal winger.
Rounding out the shortlist are a quartet representing Bayern Munich – France midfielder Franck Ribery, Dutch winger Arjen Robben and a pair of Germany internationals, Thomas Mueller and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The award is currently held by Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta but there are no Spanish players on the shortlist this year. The award is voted for by journalists from across Europe and is into its third year.
Bale makes the list having scored 26 goals for Spurs last season, the same tally as van Persie, who in his first season at United fired the team to the top of the Premier League.
