Boca looking to loan Man Utd’s Varela

Boca Juniors are hoping to bring recent Manchester United signing Guillermo Varela to Argentina on a season-long loan, Sky Sports has reported, with the Uruguayan unlikely to figure prominently in David Moyes’ first-team plans for next season.

Varela remains the only player signed by Moyes since he became United manager, though the 20-year-old is viewed as part of the club’s long-term future and they may be happy to send him on loan to Boca, in order to give him more first-team experience. Opportunities are expected to be limited at Old Trafford.

At right-back, Varela would be likely to find himself behind Rafael da Silva and Phil Jones in the pecking order, and he is thought to be open to a return to South America.

And Boca’s club secretary, Jose Roquejo, has told Radio La Red that a deal for Varela, who played in the U-20 World Cup this summer, is close to being struck. He said: “Varela is a possibility and we like him. The loan has been 80 per cent arranged.
