Manchester United’s Dutch defender Alexander Buttner says that he is not perturbed by speculation over David Moyes’ interest in bringing Leighton Baines to Old Trafford, reports Sky
The 23-year-old was signed for United by Sir Alex Ferguson from Dutch club Vitesse for just over €3m in 2012. As understudy to left-back Patrice Evra, Buttner made 13 appearances for the Red Devils last season in their title winning campaign.
Moyes has been heavily reported to be interested in bringing Everton left-back Leighton Baines with him to Manchester, despite the Toffees’ steadfast refusal that the defender is for sale. And, with Evra remaining in the squad, the acquisition of Baines were it to happen could potentially be seen as leaving the young Dutchman on a limb in the United squad.
However, Buttner says he is unconcerned by the rumours and will remain focused upon his own game and attempting to secure a regular spot in the United line-up. “The speculation doesn’t bother me. I hear the name Baines but for me I don’t care,” he said.
“I want to play my own game. If he comes I don’t think my future will be in danger. I just want to be strong and let the trainer see what I have got. I don’t think about other players, just myself. This season my target is to play more games. I want to go for the left-back position.”
