Cardiff and Tottenham to do battle for Benfica striker Oliveira

Premier League newboys Cardiff are hoping to beat Tottenham to the signing of Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira, writes The Mirror.

The Welshmen want Oliveira on a season-long loan, but Spurs have entered the fray and may considering making a move for the 21-year-old Portuguese international themselves.

It is understood that Cardiff have moved swiftly to get the terms of the loan deal agreed, and are thought to be faced with a £1m loan fee with the option of a £6m permanent deal next summer.

However, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas holds an interest in Oliveira as well, and is thought to have already made discreet enquiries about hijacking Cardiff’s bid for the player, hoping to lure the Benfica star to White Hart Lane instead.

Oliveira has only made a handful of appearances for Benfica since joining the club in 2009, and is yet to score for the club despite proving considerably prolific during his youth career.
