Cech could see Rooney in Chelsea colours

Petr Cech feels that it is not outlandish to suggest Wayne Rooney could become a Chelsea teammate, ESPN has reported, as the goalkeeper reveals his belief that the Manchester United striker would fit in at Stamford Bridge.

Rooney’s future at United is in question after Sir Alex Ferguson claimed at the end of last season that Rooney wanted to leave Old Trafford, something denied by the player and yet to be clarified publically by new manager David Moyes.

The England international has been strongly linked with a move away from United and Chelsea are one of the clubs said to be interested in signing the former Everton forward. Jose Mourinho’s side would face competition from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, among others, but Cech feels Rooney would be welcome in west London.

I could see him in a Chelsea shirt, as players change shirts,” Cech told Sky Sports News. “He has had a fantastic career with Manchester United, but sometimes players need new challenges.

If that happens, he is a fantastic player and would be welcomed to our squad. But at the moment we are in the moment of speculation so we will see what happens.

Cech continued: “He is a great player and you always want to see great players in your team. I can see lots of players in the Chelsea shirt, but it all depends on who Jose Mourinho wants to see in the Chelsea shirt.

He has his ideas and what he wants. Now the window opens and we will see what the movement is.
