Chelsea in bid for Botafogo’s Doria

According to reports in Brazil, Chelsea have made an offer in the region of €9.4m for Botafogo defender Doria, Sambafoot is reporting, with the Brazilian having been linked with several top European clubs this summer, including the Blues’ London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Jose Mourinho has previously said that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was Chelsea’s only remaining transfer target this summer, after signing Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen and Vitesse Arnhem’s Dutch U-21 midfielder Marco van Ginkel.

However, Lancenet has alleged that Chelsea had made a bid, although the reports have not been confirmed by the Europa League winners, or Botafogo.

Doria, 18, has impressed for Botafogo’s senior side, and already has one full international cap to his name, having appeared as a substitute in a friendly against Bolivia in April. He has since been linked with Barcelona, Benfica, Juventus, and FC Porto amongst others.

Should Chelsea sign Doria for the mooted fee, less than half the amount would go to Botafogo, with the rest going to third-parties who own the rights to the player. He would join a club which already has several Brazilians, including Ramires, and David Luiz.
