Chelsea ready to match Rooney’s Man Utd wages

Chelsea are willing to part with a combined £60m to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, the Daily Mail has reported. The amount comes in a £30m transfer fee and a five-year contract that would match the £240,000 the England striker is currently paid by the Premier League champions.

The future of Rooney has been the subject of much speculation over the summer and despite new United manager David Moyes insisting he wants to keep Rooney at Old Trafford, Chelsea are said to be ready to tempt the Red Devils with an offer. Rooney has two years remaining on his United contract and Chelsea are keen to exploit the uncertainty and land the player thought to be the No.1 target of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is also paying close attention to the status of Luis Suarez at Liverpool – as are Arsenal, who had an offer for the Uruguay international rejected. The Gunners’ main focus is on sealing the signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, however, while Chelsea have already this summer signed Germany international forward Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen.
