Chelsea’s De Rossi deal making progress

Chelsea appear close to bringing long-time target Daniele De Rossi to Stamford Bridge, despite Roma coach Rudi Garcia attempts to persuade the club’s board not to sell the 29-year-old, according to the London Evening Standard.

De Rossi has reportedly been told that he can leave Roma, with Chelsea thought to be preparing a £12m bid. Initially, young Brazilian full-back Wallace was to be part of the deal, although Roma are now unwilling to accept him now that they appear to be close to signing Maicon, from Manchester City.

The Italian international has spent his entire career with Roma, making his debut in 2001. He has since gone on to make 399 appearances in all competitions, scoring 45 goals from midfield. De Rossi has also earned 90 senior caps for Italy, scoring 15 goals.

And despite having long been an important player for Roma, also having four years left on his current contract, De Rossi is being allowed to look for a new club by the Italian side’s hierarchy. Garcia though believes he should stay, rather than join Chelsea, declaring: “He is a great player and surely it’s better to have him with us than to see him leave.”
