Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Oriol Romeu has joined Valencia on a season-long loan deal, reports The
The 21-year-old, who played for Barcelona and their “B” team before moving to west London, has gone back to his homeland to ply his trade with the La Liga outfit for the duration of the 2013-14 campaign.
Romeu enjoyed a good start to his Chelsea career under the tutelage of Andre Villas-Boas following the Portuguese’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2011, but has found himself falling down the pecking order since that time.
John Obi Mikel, Ramires and even David Luiz have been preferred in Romeu’s preferred defensive midfield role for the Blues this season, and with the capture of Marco van Ginkel Romeu found himself even further down in the consideration stakes.
The news sees Romeu join the likes of Marko Marin, Thibaut Courtois and Patrick van Aanholt in temporarily leaving Stamford Bridge this season, but Valencia are thought to see him as the ideal man to help strengthen their midfield as they bid to return to the Champions League.
Los Che finished 5th in La Liga last season, meaning they missed out on Europe’s top club competition, and new president Amadeo Salvo has made a return to the tournament one of his top priorities in his new role at Mestalla.
