Roberto Martinez has completed his first signing as Everton manager, returning to former side Wigan Athletic for striker Arouna Kone, the Premier League club’s official
Kone moves to Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year-deal with the Toffees. The Ivory Coast international spent a single season with the Latics, scoring 13 goals as Wigan won the FA Cup but dropped out of the top flight at the end of the campaign. Two of Kone’s goals came against Everton, netting at both the DW Stadium in a 2-2 draw and Goodison, when Everton won 2-1.
Previously of Levante, Kone has also represented Belgians Lierse, Dutch pair Roda JC and PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla in Spain. He joins Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe as Martinez’s options at centre-forward. Martinez was appointed in place of Manchester United-bound David Moyes at the end of the season.
