Fabregas open to Man Utd move

Cesc Fabregas is said to be willing to leave Barcelona for Manchester United, ESPN has reported, with the Premier League champions able to offer the former Arsenal midfielder a regular place in the starting XI – something their La Liga counterparts cannot match.

Barcelona have turned down United’s initial approaches but the claim Fabregas is interested in moving to Old Trafford will give manager David Moyes encouragement in his pursuit of the World Cup winner. Moyes has said at a recent press conference that United are still interested in Fabregas, suggesting a renewed bid was imminent.

Fabregas moved to Barcelona two years ago, having originally left the Catalans as a teenager to join Arsenal. He established himself under Arsene Wenger, eventually becoming the club captain, before returning to Camp Nou, since then has struggled to hold down a place in the side.

The midfielder is said to have told friends in English football he wants to join United, with the prospect of partnering up with former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie also a factor. Van Persie left the Gunners for United last summer.

For Barcelona to agree to sell Fabregas, however, the player would need to put in a transfer request since, as it stands, they are not inclined to lose another midfielder having already sold Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich.
