Fer delighted with Norwich move

Leroy Fer is delighted to have joined Norwich City, Sky Sports has reported, adding that he believes the Premier League will suit his game and that he cannot wait to play with compatriot Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Fer signed in at Carrow Road from FC Twente earlier in July, having come close to moving to England with Everton in January only for the transfer to collapse at the 11th hour. Fer though expressed his delight at becoming a Norwich player. “I’m very happy – I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” the 23-year-old said.

Chris Hughton told me that he’s been following me for a long time so it’s very nice to be here,” Fer continued, adding: “I think the Premier League fits my qualities – I think they’re good for this division. I want to help the club and I also want the club to help me become a better player.

Fer is not the only Dutch arrival at the club this summer, with van Wolfswinkel joining from Sporting Lisbon in a deal that was agreed a lot earlier. And Fer confirmed the presence of his countryman was a factor: “He was saying to me that he wanted me to come and play for the club – he texted me a few times. That also helped me make my choice. I’ve known him around three years.

But Fer added that all of his new teammates have made him feel welcome, and thanked the Norwich supporters for their encouragement as well. “My new team-mates are very good and easy (to get on with). It’s been very easy for me to fit in the group. The fans have been really amazing too – I’m getting lots of tweets already,” he said.
