David Moyes’ club have already made a bid of £25m for Fabregas, which appears has led to the Spaniard’s former club Arsenal – who have first refusal on the 26-year-old – Chelsea, and Manchester City increasing their interest.
Moyes is yet to make a significant signing since taking over at United earlier this summer. Meanwhile the Gunners must decide whether to take advantage of their first refusal clause.
Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova has acknowledged the interest, stating: “I’m aware there have been offers, I had a conversation with him and he told me that he wanted to continue here and that he didn’t want to go to another big club. He wants to succeed here.”
While, as Vilanova said, Fabregas would be happy to stay at Barcelona, it is thought that he would be open to a move should the club accept a bid. The Catalans may, however, be less willing to part with Fabregas after the departure of another creative midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, to Bayern Munich.
