Giroud hoping for Arsenal to sign Suarez

Olivier Giroud has said that hopes that Arsenal can pull off the signing of Luis Suarez, ESPN is reporting, with the French international optimistic that the two could forge a useful strike partnership.

Arsenal are rumoured to be preparing a bid for Suarez, who wants to leave Liverpool after two and-a-half years with the club, and several controversial incidents. The Uruguayan’s agent has claimed that an offer of £40m would trigger a release clause in his contract, although Liverpool are said to view things differently.

Giroud predominantly acted as a lone striker for Arsenal last season, supported by two wingers, but the 26-year-old Frenchman has told The Sun that he and Suarez could work well as strike pairing. He said: ‘Luis Suarez is someone with whom I could form a good understanding on the pitch, so I am in favour of him coming to Arsenal and I am not afraid of the competition for places his arrival would bring about.’

Any move for Suarez would create considerable competition for a striking berth, with Arsenal also chasing Gonzalo Higuain, of Real Madrid. Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Gervinho and Theo Walcott are all amongst manager Arsene Wenger’s current striking options.
