Higuain backed to match van Persie at Arsenal

Ossie Ardiles believes Gonzalo Higuain can have the same kind of impact at Arsenal as former Gunners captain Robin van Persie, according to ESPN.

Ardiles, an Argentina international midfielder in his playing days, and a former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager, feels that once the Real Madrid striker settles in to life in the Premier League – should his move to Arsenal be completed – then he has all the qualities needed to be a success.

Van Persie is a super player, one of my favourites and one of the best in the Premier League last season, along with Gareth Bale, Ardiles said. “Can Higuain be as good as van Persie? Of course he can, that’s how good Higuain is.

You remember when Van Persie arrived he was not exactly, immediately, the best player, it took a bit of time. But he was younger, now Higuain is much more experienced,” Ardiles continued. “Higuain is a top player. He will always score goals. He likes to be in the box all the time and he works hard for his team, wherever he goes he’s going to be great for the team he’s joining.

Higuain has been a Madrid player since the winter of 2007, moving to Spain from River Plate. He scored 122 goals in 266 games for the Santiago Bernabeu club, but is expected to move on from La Liga this summer.

Van Persie, meanwhile, left Arsenal for Manchester United last summer after seven years under Arsene Wenger.
