Jenkinson targets regular place with Arsenal and England

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has set his sights on becoming Arsene Wenger’s first choice full-back for next season. The Daily Mirror are claiming that the youngster, having already caught the eye of Roy Hodgson, wants to also become a regular fixture in the England squad and ultimately be on the plane to the World Cup in Brazil next year.

Jenkinson has struggled to nail down a place as Wenger’s first choice right-back due in no small part to the form of Bacary Sagna. However with rumours surrounding the Frenchman’s Arsenal future and the interest shown in him from Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, Jenkinson has been alerted as to the possibility of his chance arising.

Bacary finished up playing most of the games last year, so that would lead many to believe that he is the first choice right-back. But I want to push him for his place and he knows this,” said a determined Jenkinson.

The dual-national defender has played for both England and Finland through his junior career, though made his full international bow for England last year, 12 months after he signed for Arsenal from Charlton Athletic for a fee believed to be around £1m.
