Germany midfielder Sami Khedira has told German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag that he would like to stay at Real Madrid, with some rumours linking him with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, ESPN
Mourinho is thought to be keen on signing Khedira to bolster Chelsea’s midfield, with John Obi Mikel looking set to leave. While he has already signed Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel, Mourinho has yet to make a marquee signing since returning to West London in June.
And while Khedira is seemingly a target, the 26-year-old responded by stating: “Three years ago he handed me the chance to make the next step from Bundesliga to Real Madrid as young international. But I am contracted to Real and now I am first of all looking forward to working with Carlo Ancelotti.”
Khedira, who has 39 caps and three goals for Germany, has two years to run on his current contract. Despite acknowledging that he enjoyed working under Mourinho, Khedira is looking forward to the beginning of the new season, which will signal the start of Carlo Ancelotti’s reign.
He added: “I am full of anticipation as I am still very proud to be playing for Real Madrid. Who plays for this huge club competes for titles. I am convinced that the work under Carlo Ancelotti will take me one step further.”
