Krul confident ahead of new season

Newcastle United’s talismanic goalkeeper has predicted a better season this time around for his teammates. The Magpies finished a disappointing 16th place last term after being tipped to occupy a European spot.

Givemesport.com are reporting that Krul has said: “It was a mixed season. Getting to the quarter-finals of the Europa League was a great achievement and a fantastic experience but of course the league form was not ideal.

“We had so many injuries: it was just ridiculous; me, Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye, Steven Taylor and Hatem Ben Arfa all missed important parts of the season and I think that definitely contributed, but next year we will be up there I have no doubt about that.”

Krul made 31 appearances for the Magpies last season, before being ruled out towards the end of the campaign with a dislocated shoulder. However the number one position will not be in any doubt next year after the 25-year-old signed a five year deal with the club last May. The Dutch stopper has been a mainstay of the Newcastle side over the last few years and will have an even more important role at the club now, with the departure of veteran ‘keeper Steve Harper.

If the Toon are serious about Krul’s goals for next season then they will need the form of important players to improve. They will also need to keep hold of prized assets such as Krul, Ben Arfa and Cabaye with manager Alan Pardew looking to improve his squad further throughout the summer.
