Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are chasing highly-rated Brazilian winger Bernard, and are battling at least three other clubs for his signature, according to the Daily
Borussia Dortmund, FC Porto, and Shakhtar Donetsk are all reportedly competing to sign Bernard, with Porto already having a £15.5m rejected – Atletico Mineiro’s asking price is thought to be in the region of £18m. The English clubs’ failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League may put them at a disadvantage.
Bernard, 20, has made 12 appearances this year for Atletico Mineiro, and was part of the Brazil squad which won this summer’s Confederations Cup, making two substitute appearances.
Spurs have already signed Bernard’s compatriot, Paulinho, this summer, while Liverpool have made four acquisitions, with Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, and Simon Mignolet all making the move to Anfield.
Both clubs have made enquiries after news emerged that Bernard is ready to leave Atletico Mineiro after the second leg of the final of the Copa Libertadores, against Olimpia, to whom they trail 2-0 from the first leg.
