Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told of his delight at securing young Spanish pair Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas this summer, saying that they both have a ‘winning mentality’, that the club needs, Sky
Aspas was top scorer for Celta Vigo last season with 12 goals, as Luis Enrique’s side narrowly avoided relegation from the Primera Liga. And, Rodgers says, he’s excited at the prospect of seeing the 25-year-old in a Liverpool shirt: ‘”Iago is a real competitor but he’s also got quality as well. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in action.”
Alberto was signed from Sevilla, after impressing last season in a loan spell with Barcelona B, scoring 11 goals and making 18 assists. At 20, Alberto arrives at the same age as Brazilian Philippe Coutinho did in January, and Rodgers hopes that Alberto can emulate Coutinho’s consistently impressive performances.
Rodgers said: “There’s no pressure. You saw with Philippe Coutinho, who came in at the beginning of the year at 20 years of age, and he was a similar profile – had experience but was young. He set the Premier League alight in his first six months here.”
