Liverpool are considering another bid for Schalke defender Kryiakos Papadopoulos as Martin Skrtel nears a loan move to Rafael Benitez’s Napoli, the
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has monitored Papadopoulos before but backed away from the Greece international after he suffered a serious knee injury, with Rodgers concerned the centre-back would not be able to pass a medical if he pushed through with the transfer. But Rodgers could revive the £13m deal as Papadopoulos nears fitness – but the medical would be especially stringent to ensure the 21-year-old is healthy.
And Papadopolous’ arrival could hasten the departure of Skrtel, who has been the subject of a bid from Napoli already. The first offer collapsed when the Serie A club indicated they were unwilling to pay Skrtel’s wages but a loan switch has now been mooted. The temporary move could be more in line with Napoli’s financial expectations, and it would also see Skrtel reunited with the manager who took him to Anfield in the first place.
