Luis Suarez has welcomed the offer made by Arsenal to Liverpool for his services, ESPN
The Gunners’ £30m bid was turned down by Liverpool but Suarez is thankful Arsene Wenger’s side made their approach, showing as it did that they are willing to look beyond his disciplinary issues. Suarez will start the new season only after serving the final six games of his 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, with the suspension to be served regardless of the club he is contracted to at that point.
“One has to be thankful that despite everything that’s happened…clubs still value players for what they can do on the field,” Suarez told Uruguayan radio. “That makes me think that I can come back and do things well over there.”
Suarez added: “They [the press] have given it to me in England but, like we say, I’ve given them stuff to feed on because if I hadn’t done anything then probably they wouldn’t have been as bad. But football is like that and you have to be accustomed to all that and it’s good that the English clubs still want me.”
His treatment by the press is part of the reason Suarez wants to leave English football, while Pare Guardiola, Suarez’s agent and brother of Bayern Munich Coach Pep, spoke with Liverpool earlier this week and confirmed his client wants to join a Champions League club.
“My agent is in charge, he knows what I want,” Suarez said. “I have to present myself on July 21 to Liverpool for their tour of Australia but no one knows what could happen. I’ve already said what I have to say and initially I have to be there on the 21st but maybe a phone call one day can change all your plans.”
Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are among the clubs linked with a move for the former Ajax captain, who confirmed there were two or three clubs showing an interest, but Suarez denied anything had been agreed with any potential suitor.
