Liverpool target Spanish starlet Morata

After already signing two Spaniards this summer, Liverpool are chasing 20-year-old Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, the Daily Star is reporting, with the Reds likely to offer a fee in the region of £6m.

Brendan Rodgers has brought Sevilla’s Luis Alberto, and Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas to Anfield this summer, while Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet have also joined Liverpool. In turning their attention to Morata, Real may be keen on a swap deal involving Luis Suarez, who has spoken of his desire to play for Carlo Ancetotti’s side, although Liverpool are unwilling to sell.

Morata’s goals were crucial in Spain’s European U-21 Championship campaign. Mainly used as an impact substitute, he helped himself to four goals in five appearances as Spain went on to win the competition.

However, Morata has found opportunities limited at Real Madrid, with several other strikers ahead of him in the pecking order. He made just five starts in the league for the senior side under Jose Mourinho, scoring two goals. And a move to Liverpool is likely to ensure more first-team action next season.
