Romelu Lukaku insists he would have no problems with Wayne Rooney joining Chelsea, Sky
Chelsea have had an offer for Rooney rejected by United but manager Jose Mourinho has said the England forward is the only player he wants to sign this summer, having already added Germany winger Andre Schurrle and Netherlands midfielder Marco van Ginkel.
Mourinho can already call on Fernando Torres and Demba Ba as well as Lukaku, who has returned to Stamford Bridge following a successful year on loan at West Bromwich Albion in which the 20-year-old scored 17 league goals.
And Lukaku is not fazed by the prospect of competing for a place in the Chelsea side against Rooney – or any of his current teammates. “You know when you are playing for a team like Chelsea, there is going to be competition,” the former Anderlecht striker said.
“It is the manager’s choice. You have to accept that you have to work hard to make it a successful squad. If he is part of our team I will welcome him with open arms,” Lukaku added.
Lukaku went on to praise the approach taking so far by Mourinho upon his return to Chelsea, almost six years after he first left the club. “He is the manager and he has a vision of the way he wants to play. The players have to improve to do that. I certainly have it in me.
“He is very direct – and I love that. It is important. If he has something to say to you, he says it. That is a good thing. He is very direct and in your face.”
