Arsenal forward Gervinho will not be returning to French football with Lyon, Sky
Garde, a former Arsenal player, had been linked with an approach for Gervinho but publically rejected the speculation, claiming Lyon already had other alternatives in the position favoured by the Ivory Coast international.
“This has only come from the press,” Garde said of the rumour that also claimed Yoann Gourcuff would move the other way, adding: “I’ve heard that Lyon is interested in Gervinho, but Gervinho is a striker, and we have young and very good strikers already at the club.”
Gervinho has also been linked with a reunion with his manager at Lille, Rudi Garcia, who this summer took over at Serie A side Roma. Gervinho left Lille for the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2011 and has gone on to score 11 goals in 63 appearances under Arsene Wenger. It has also been mooted that Marseille are willing to meet Arsenal’s £8.6m asking price for the 26-year-old.
