Bernard Lacombe, Lyon’s presidential advisor, has told the French club’s television channel that winger Yoann Gourcuff, thought to be an Arsenal transfer target, will not be sold this summer, ESPN
Gourcuff has struggled to make an impression at Lyon since arriving from Bordeaux for €22m in 2010, scoring 10 goals in 79 appearances in all competitions. He is one of the higher earners at the Stade Gerland, leading to reports that Lyon were to contemplate selling the 27-year-old this summer.
But Bacombe denied this, saying: “Yoann Gourcuff won’t leave during this transfer window. The president told me that there were opportunities, but all three parties need to be in agreement. The president has had, it’s true, a lot of approaches, and that has enabled him to have a different point of view other than OL’s and he’s talked about it with Yoann. But I don’t think he’ll leave.”
Arsenal’s only signing so far this summer is striker Yaya Sanogo, with negotiations continuing over proposed moves for Real Madrid’s Gozalo Higuain, and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. They now appear to be battling Monaco, Valencia, and Atletico Madrid for French international Gourcuff.
