Man City Transfer Focus – Mourinho puts on the pressure as Pellegrini keeps busy

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already started a mental battle with his Premier League title rivals this year, stating that all the pressure this year will be on big spending Manchester City.

Mourinho said of City’s business so far: “I know the players City have brought in, they are good players. They are players at the top of their game who don’t need to adapt. I think they have bought very, very well, so of course people should be expecting more of them.

Mourinho’s outburst comes after the Citizens w announced the signing of their latest recruit, Stevan Jovetic, from Fiorentina. Jovetic has now joined up with his new teammates including other new faces Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo in Asia.

However, it would seem that City manager Manuel Pellegrini’s summer business is not yet concluded, as he continues to form his own Sky Blue squad. The Chilean boss has now turned his attention to Portugal and Europa League finalists Benfica, where he is rumoured to be interested in Eduardo Salvio.

The Daily Express though are reporting that the Portuguese outfit are unwilling to let go of their man, having put a £34m price tag on the 23-year-old. Winger Salvio has been attracting some interest from the Premier League with both Arsenal and Tottenham taking particular notice of his situation. The youngster did little to dampen the interest in him last season as he scored 10 goals in 29 appearances last term.

Elsewhere reports are claiming that City have named their price to clubs wanting to take Aleksandar Kolarov. The Eastlands club have said that any interested party wanting to prise the Serbian away from Manchester will have to stump up £6m. This would mean City are willing to make a £10m loss on the full-back who cost £16m from Lazio three years ago; Juventus and Turkish club Galatasaray are said to be interested.

City youngster Abdisalam Ibrahim has become a target for Scottish champions Celtic, according to the Independent. The 22-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Norwegian outfit Stromsogodset. The Celts are looking for a replacement for Victor Wanyama, who traded Glasgow for Southampton earlier in the summer, and they believe that Ibrahim, who has been likened to midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure, could be their man.

The Norway Under-21 international has a clause in his contract which can be activated should interest arise from a Premier League club. It now appears that this fact has been made known as Crystal Palace and Swansea are leading a host of clubs interested in the youngster, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

One person who has seen their time at the Etihad end already is Brazilian defender Maicon. The 31-year-old right-back has signed a two-year deal which will see him return to Serie A with Roma. The team from the Italian capital had been keeping tabs on the defender’s Man City future and have now ended the player’s stay in Manchester less than a year after his arrival from Inter last summer.
