Man City looking for more transfers, Pellegrini confirms

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he wants to add more new faces to his Manchester City squad this summer, Sky Sports has reported, but the manager would not be drawn over mooted interest in Real Madrid defender Pepe.

City have already made four signings this summer at a combined cost of more than £80m, adding midfielder Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla winger Jesus Navas and his teammate, striker Alvaro Negredo, and Fiorentina’s Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic. But Pellegrini claimed that the signings of the latter pair, Jovetic and Negredo, were simply to replace Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez, who both left the club recently, and so the squad re-build he is undertaking is not yet finished.

The club has spent money on important players, like Stevan and Negredo,” Pellegrini said, adding: “But we must remind you that last year there was Balotelli and Tevez, so we had to replace two very good players with another two very good players.

So, we have the month of July and some days of August to finish the squad completely. It’s not absolutely complete, but it’s very near to being complete.

A £20m offer for Pepe has been claimed to be incoming but the former Malaga Coach – who also led Real Madrid for a season after coming to prominence with Villarreal – declined to speak about transfer gossip. “I don’t speak about rumours. I think today we have the players we need here.

I just said that we will see what happens in this month and during August. I’m not talking about specific names because it’s not better for us, so I don’t talk about Pepe or any other names.
