Manchester United are said to be confident Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas will agree to join the Premier League champions, the
United’s offer for Fabregas stands at £26m but the Gunners have a clause in the deal that took Fabregas back to Spain that would allow Arsenal to re-sign their former captain for £25m. But with Arsene Wenger looking at other areas of his team, United may not face competition for Fabregas’ signature.
Fabregas became United’s target after his Barcelona teammate Thiago Alcantara turned down their overtures, instead choosing to move to Bayern Munich, now led by former Barca Coach Pep Guardiola after struggling to nail down a regular place in the team at Camp Nou.
The 26-year-old Fabregas is facing a similar situation, the newspaper notes, having made it known he is disappointed at not being a guaranteed name on the team sheet of Guardiola’s successor Tito Vilanova. But Fabregas has stopped short of declaring he wants to leave Catalonia in search of a regular place in the starting XI.
Moyes decided to lodge a bid for Fabregas after ruling out other candidates, including Real Madrid’s former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric, and could also move for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini as he continues to attempt to strengthen the midfield he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired at the end of last season.
