Manchester United are set to table a bid of £35m to Barcelona for midfielder Cesc Fabregas, with David Moyes keen on recruiting a creative midfielder to take the place of the recently retired Paul Scholes, Sky
Fabregas has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, after spending two seasons at Barcelona, in which he scored 29 goals in all competitions. In those two years he has become a much more regular member of the Spain starting XI, although some supporters of the Catalans have not been fully won over by the 26-year-old.
His former club, Arsenal, are said to have the first refusal, should Barcelona be willing to sell Fabregas. United have remained interested, and after appearing to miss out on potential target Thiago Alcantara, also of Barcelona, a bid for Fabregas looks more likely, although the Spaniard is reportedly looking to stay at the Nou Camp.
The retirement of Scholes at the end of last season leaves Michael Carrick, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Shinji Kagawa and veteran Ryan Giggs as United’s current central midfield options.
