Returning Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told the club’s website that he expects his two Premier League new boys, Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel, to make an instant impact in their first season in English football, ESPN
Mourinho has begun taking training sessions with his side this week, and while the club are expected to spend more money on at least one big-name signing later this summer, Schurrle, signed from Bayer Leverkusen, and Dutch U-21 international van Ginkel have already come in for praise from Mourinho, who said:“Andre Schurrle is still so young but he already has great history because he plays in his national team, he has played Champions League and he played three complete seasons for Bayer Leverkusen.”
“He is a player who is absolutely ready and he gives us more than one position in attack and adds quality. He will be important for us.”
The former Real Madrid manager added: “Marco van Ginkel is one of the best prospects. He is not yet like Schurrle – close to being a finished product – but he is a player with great potential.”
Mourinho begins his second spell at Chelsea against Hull City on August 18, and van Ginkel and Schurrle are expected to feature heavily in the season ahead. Schurrle scored 14 goals last season in Germany, while van Ginkel’s signing came after impressive performances for Vitesse Arnhem, and at this summer’s European U-21 Championship.
