Mourinho wants Chelsea reunion with Real Madrid’s Khedira

Jose Mourinho is lining up the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, the Daily Mirror has reported, as the Chelsea manager looks for a reunion with a player he originally brought to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Since Mourinho departed Madrid, however, the club have spent £34m on Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi, moving Germany international Khedira down the midfield pecking order. And Khedira is one of the few players with whom Mourinho did not have a falling out during his combustible final year in the Spanish capital, so each party would likely welcome the chance to work together once more.

Mourinho is said to be looking for a dominant midfield ball-winner and Khedira fits the bill better than Roma’s Daniele De Rossi, according to the Mirror. Chelsea have mulled over a move for the Italy international but decided against it, with Fiorentina now in the frame.

Khedira, 26, would cost Chelsea in the region of £20m, with a £4m-per-year wage packet as well. The former Stuttgart midfielder has made 103 appearances for Madrid in all competitions since moving to La Liga in 2010, scoring seven goals.
