Mourinho wants to bring Drogba back to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho wants to re-sign Didier Drogba for Chelsea, the Daily Mirror has reported, a year after the striker left Stamford Bridge shortly after winning the Champions League.

Drogba’s last act on the field as a Chelsea player was to converting the match-winning penalty in the final shootout against Bayern Munich at Bayern’s Allianz Arena. Drogba had previously levelled the scores in normal time, sending the match into extra-time.

It is claimed by the newspaper that Drogba was recently at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to speak with Mourinho and from that meeting, Mourinho will attempt to persuade Galatasaray to allow Drogba to leave. Gala are currently in England, beating Shrewsbury 3-0 in a friendly on Saturday, a match in which Drogba appeared. If the Turkish club are not open to selling Drogba this summer then Mourinho will wait a year and get the Ivorian on a free transfer.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich attempted to bring Drogba back to Stamford Bridge in January, the newspaper claims, having allowed Drogba to leave for Shanghai Shenhua only six months earlier. Though Drogba did not return then, he has spoken of his desire to remain part of Chelsea’s future. “ It would be nice, not just coaching but to help the club,” Drogba said earlier in the year.

For Chelsea I gave everything and, of course, they gave it back to me. I feel at home when I go to London,” the 35-year-old added.
